Sabbath-the seventh day of the week. The Bible
commands that each Jew, and his or her family, servants and work animals must
rest on the Sabbath.
Candlesticks-an integral part of Jewish custom and ceremony, candles are
used to mark the beginning of the Sabbath (Shabbat) and other holidays.
Challah-the word commonly used for the braided
bread for the Sabbath and most Jewish holidays. Originally, however the Challah
referred to a portion of the dough separated from the bread before baking.
Kiddush Cup-a special goblet, often elaborately
decorated, to hold the ceremonial wine for the Shabbat and other holidays. The
drinking of wine, with appropriate blessing, symbolizes joy and celebration.
